Lalala Links Love!

Monday, August 10th, 2009

I’m not much online at the moment. Partially because my dearest main laptop is on the verge of a breakdown, and also because it’s summer.

Uneventful days like these usually makes me think more than I should. There are times when I could use a proper off button – or at least a way to put my brain on pause. I’ve been going over education and job possibilities recently, and I get more and more confused. Eventually, I’ll manage to decide. I’m just hoping it’ll be soon. Before the next school year if I’m lucky. I’ve already written a bit on the topic.

  • IKEA Hacker. Sometimes great, sometimes not-so. Consider it inspiration.
  • The Photobooth Blog. Inspiration at a high level, intriguing and not to mention – it’s the most comprehensive photobooth resource on the internet. Major plus in my book.

Long time no update!

I have to admit I haven’t been searching around too much lately. So much to do, so little time to finish everything. I need to get my butt out of my bed and take pictures around Shanghai before I leave, and I need to buy a whole lot of tourist junk so I won’t regret it later. I want lanterns and antique-looking stuff!

Picture by me! The giant bronze Buddah in Hong Kong.

  • Shanghaistuff.com Incredibly networking site for people living in Shanghai (and around)! I met so many amazing people through the groups there. I’m linking you directly to my own profile, of course.
  • Mix Hostel in Chengdu! The most awesome hostel I’ve ever stayed at. It felt just like home, it was cheap, the food was both good and cheap, the tea was yummy, and such a great place to get friends!

Soooo, that was it for this time. I’m sorry I don’t have more stuff to post about. But don’t worry! I’ll start heavy-geeking again soon! ~~

Another random link post. I’m still living on my read-it-later list, but I’ve also found some new, thrillingly, lovely stuff. At least in my eyes

  • Poladroid project. I’ve always had a thing for polaroid pictures, even though I never had a camera of my own. Not having a polaroid camera or money to buy film is not a problem any more though – now everyone can create 70′s looking pictures on their computer! It’s so fun!
  • Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. Incredible perfume and oil mixes with enthralling themes. They have so much, and I want to smell everything. ANNE BONNY, BELLE ÉPOQUE, BEWITCHED, GRAND GUIGNOL, JACK, POISONED APPLE, LUST, BLACK DAHLIA, VICE, NEFERTITI, VIXEN – I’d like to buy most of the perfumes I read about! I also adore the stories and poems they give most of their perfumes. They even have perfumes inspired by some of Neil Gaiman’s stories; American Gods, Anansi Boys, and Stardust.

    Example; LAMPADES
The Lampades are the darkly beautiful nymphs of the underworld, also called the Lethe Nymphae Avernales. They are the daughters of the Gods that govern the many rivers of Hades. The Lampades are Hecate’s torch-bearers and accompany the Goddess on her hunts, quests and revels. Their scent is the crisp, inviting bittersweet tang of cranberry with smoky dark lilies, heady, sensual musk, a tingle of ginger and a brush of Mediterranean spices.

  • foto_decadent. My favourite fashion community. Unfortunately, I can’t get into their page when I’m in Shanghai.

I’m jetlagging. Maybe that’s with one G. I have a 7-hours-behind-local-time jetlag, and I’m almost not doing anything but sleeping.

Because of this sad, and hopefully not long-lasting, fact, I haven’t had as much time as usually to search up topics. Luckily however, I have the Read-It-Later function for firefox. After all, it’s crucial to have that when one has a habit of “reading” more than 20 things at once. The links below are all taken from my read-it-later list, which seriously needs to be slimmed down. I currently have 107 pages, each with four links. 428 unread things.

  • Shoe Lacing Methods. Not sure why I like this. But, y’know, 36 different ways to lace your boots might come in handy some day! And my gawd, after some picture research, I must say it looks pretty!
  • How To Be Creative. Lovely article with illustrating cartoons drawn on the back of business cards.

The Regular Topics

The continued thread. Or post, more suitable with post. What did I read on the first day of the new year? Oh hon, I read quite a lot.

Photo; Wikipedia article on Wagashi.

  • Geisha. An interesting introduction to the geisha. Not that I haven’t read a lot about them before. Hm, it just hit me – there’s an awful lot of Japanese-related links today!

The Topics

My rant from yesterday about insecurity’s got me searching for whole lot of topics today. And getting myself a google reader, just for fun.

A Part Of My World

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I’ve always been the one to have 20+ tabs up in one Firefox window, despite being an active user of Read-It-Later. Articles, news, blogs, flickr, facebook, youtube videos, deviantArt, fashion livejournal groups, pages I stumbled – it’s almost too much to mention!

And so I decided to share some. Y’know. Maybe you like the same kinds of things as I currently do.

“Generally, it is very rare that people accept new ideas,” Maccoby says. It takes a person with “strategic intelligence” to push a new idea successfully. Such a person must have foresight, the ability to partner with others, and the charisma to motivate an entire organization to succeed. This, Maccoby says, is “productive narcissism.” When a person with this combination of traits emerges – and arguably this will happen fairly often when you have an entire generation of young narcissists – great things can happen. ~ The New Me Generation

You want fries with that?
