Y’know, the worlds simplest things can sometimes be as tall as Mount Everest. Cliché? Oh yes. Especially when it comes to IKEA.

Ever crossed paths with “easy set-up” furniture and struggled? The pretty, pretty furniture with handy, detailed, numbered, illustrated manuals and a promise from the distributor that you could do this all by yourself with no trouble at all? Well, you’re not alone, obviously. I did this evening. Or, if I hadn’t postponed it for so long I would have struggled with it two months ago. Thank frosted chocolate cupcakes for procrastination. <3

Now, some gals are lucky to have their mother, father, siblings, friends or boyfriend (if they’ve got one, which I unfortunately don’t) help them through the trials. Or some, like me, stubbornly proceed on their own against all odds.

My great Mount Everest this time was as simple as a plastic cosmetic table – on wheels – for the bathroom (god knows how much I needed more space) and was harder to assemble than I ever could have imagined. Every time I tried to hold three parts up while desperately trying to put the fourth part on, already assembled parts would disassemble.

This is where I casually mention that there was a lot of yelling, cursing, frustration and throwing things around the room. Until I managed to make my sister help. And with a bit more struggling, we got the cosmetic table together and up on it’s wheels.

I’ve decided to never try this alone again, although I will sooner or later, and concluded that to single-handedly handle your IKEA furniture, you need at least 6 hands to keep everything in the right place. I also came to think that the deepest pits of Hell definitely is reserved for the people who decide to assemble their IKEA-furniture alone.
